Field
One of the ideas Annie was interested in exploring was color theory, particularly the concept of complements. To each panel she applied a matte, opaque color that represents an environment or weather condition during spring. On top of the blues and greens are two layers of petals. These warm red layers are translucent, so the complementary base color is still visible through them. Annie was also interested in making the sides of the panels just as important as the fronts. She accomplished this by building panels with thick sides. This allows the petals to fall off the front of the panel onto the frame and then climb back up to the front again.

Poppy Field
The nine 12”x12”x6” panels represent a poppy field. The panels can be hung in a 3x3 grid, pictured, or in a horizontal row. Annie created the damask pattern by studying photographs and botanical drawings of poppies. On top of the matte, green damask is a clear, high gloss poppy.
